๐ŸŽ๐Ÿฎ Shiny, chewy homemade caramel envelops crisp apples โ€“ ultimate fall indulgence!
๐ŸŽƒ Customizable toppings turn simple treats into festive, shareable delights.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 6 apples

Ingredients

– 6 large Granny Smith apples

– 2 cups granulated white sugar

– 1/4 cup light corn syrup

– 1/2 cup water

– 1 cup heavy whipping cream

– 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

– 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

– 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

– 1 cup chopped peanuts or pecans

– 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

Instructions

1-First Step: Prepare the Mise en Place

Wash the 6 apples under cool water and dry them completely with a towel. This removes wax for better caramel stick. Remove stems and insert a popsicle stick firmly into each core from the top. Chill apples in the fridge for 30 minutes to help caramel set fast.

Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats. If using toppings like nuts, spread them out on one sheet. This setup keeps things organized for busy cooks.

2-Second Step: Make the Homemade Caramel

In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine 2 cups sugar, 1/4 cup corn syrup, and 1/2 cup water over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves, then stop stirring. Attach a candy thermometer and boil to 320ยฐF (about 10 minutes) until amber-colored.

Warm 1 cup heavy cream in microwave for 30 seconds. Remove pan from heat and slowly pour in cream; it will bubble vigorously. Stir in 4 tbsp butter, 1 tsp vanilla, and 1/2 tsp salt until smooth. Cool caramel to 200ยฐF for safe dipping (5-10 minutes).

3-Third Step: Dip the Apples

Hold one apple by the stick and dip fully into the caramel, tilting the pan for even coverage. Let excess drip off for 10-15 seconds, swirling gently. For caramel apples with candy coating, roll wet caramel in chocolate chips right away.

Place on prepared sheet. Repeat for all apples, working quickly as caramel thickens. If it sets too fast, reheat gently over low heat.

4-Fourth Step: Add Toppings and Initial Set

While caramel is tacky, roll half the apples in chopped nuts or other add-ons. Space them apart on the sheet to avoid sticking. Refrigerate for 15 minutes to firm up.

5-Fifth Step: Finishing Touches and Serving

Once set, drizzle with extra melted chocolate if desired or sprinkle sea salt flakes. Let sit at room temp for 30 minutes before enjoying. Serve on a platter with napkins for easy sharing.
